I think that there is a good player there, he has all the attributesAgreed. He is quick which is nowadays important for central defenders and he can pass the ball out of defence. Attributes which you'd hope CC and his coaches can work with.

It depends on how you play. If you play 433 generally you need your wide men to stay high up the pitch.One of the main reasons I prefer 4-3-3 to 4-4-2. Under the motto, spread it wide and hit them fast.
However, off the ball, we play 442 (despite what media say). In that system you need your wide men to tuck in and drop deeper at times.
It's different when we have possession, players don't stay in the shape.

But no-one can afford to have wingers like Willie (or Robertson at Forest) any more who just lurk out wide when they haven't got the ball.The counter argument to that is that if wingers are to be really effective, they need to be out wide ready to go, the moment defence turns into attack. Obviously any protection is positive but now the focus needs to go onto planning policy. Anything to get the local plan restricting the uses of the site for sporting and ancillary uses will help prevent sales to speculators. Probably similar could be done with the hotel and the training ground assuming protections don't already exist.I'd expect the ground is already designated for sports & leisure use in the local plan, but there is nothing to stop anyone (owner or developer) applying for a change of use. I expect Sandwell would oppose such an application, assuming their policy is strongly worded to prevent such losses, but an applicant could take it to appeal (Secretary of State or Government inspector). A developer would have to demonstrate there was clearly no viable alternative within the same planning use class, before any alternative uses could be considered. The Asset of Community Value is now an extra hurdle, which a devloper would have to justify losing. That said, central Government has been trying to relax planning rules for some years, and an Inspector would probably not favour a large site like the Hawthorns becoming derilect. However, I think we're jumping ahead a long way here, and lets hope it never gets to that stage.

Quite correct it is my opinion, where is your carefully crafted reply that clearly argues his overall benefit to the team on a continuous basis, bearing in mind his age and that there may be better alternatives out thereThose are all issues for when his contract comes to an end, but at the moment he is delivering for the team and is fitting in well with CC's tactics. I get what you are saying, of course I do. Yet in my opinion, the spending he has overseen has been very wise spending overall (Swift, Wallace and Yokuslu). Yes it is a gamble but it has increased the chances of promotion so is far from reckless.Certainly agree about Swift, Wallace and Yokuslu, but letting Pereira go on the cheap?...
