Think I counted 4 touches he made. Made even more obvious by our booing. Think it was the wrong move from Hughes personally. Crouch was causing a bit of a problem and it seemed to give our players a boost in an important time of the match

Livermore and Chadli do not deserve to not be on the winning side based on those first half performances.

Hope we put the game to bed and shut those losers up who are desperate for a rivalry they will never get.

Really? Livermore has been one of our best players. Winning the ball back constantly and finding the pass. Chadli got the assist..

United were on BBC which is accessible for everyone, Sutton was on BT which isn't. Hardly a good comparison.

Errrm.. Bt were showing the game for free.. So was accessible for everyone on freeview or their website. Man United are on Bt next round but I suppose you'll be discounting that because it's not accessible for everyone?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Proud of the club
« on: February 03, 2017, 06:32:46 PM »
So the whole Berahino story has made me feel very proud of the club.

It may be be very naive of me to believe this, but it does seem that we chose to try and support him and pull him through it. We could have reacted to what seems in hindsight like real provocation from him with his tweets of his six-pack where he seemed to suggest that he was fit enough to be playing, but we didn't.

The fact that this news has leaked means that I think we should be commended for the way in which we supported an employee. Pulis too.

Unfortunately, whereas up to this point I did have a little sympathy for Berahino, I now think he is a fugg of the highest order. To sit in a press conference as recently as last week and suggest that we didn't play him because he wouldn't sign the contract is true deception given that we've now learned he was banned for drugs. I've nothing but utter contempt for him, and whereas previously I hoped he would turn his career round I know hope he fails miserably and is shown to be the fugg that he is.

As for Hughes, well last week he was questioning why Pulis never played him, yet this week he is saying he knew all along about the ban. I'm not convinced Hughes knew anything of it.

Sorry, I'm passionate about my club and I'm both incredibly proud of the way we have acted and incredibly angry that someone could be so out of order.

Smash em on Saturday please - and lets get McLean on Berahino in a one on one.

Agree with that, think Hughes often speaks out too much and ends up with his foot in his mouth. Was obviously having a sly dig at the club/Pulis and trying to big up his new signing but like you said it's come back to bite him. He either knew about it and for some reason felt the need to question why we weren't playing him, or didn't know at all and now has to cover himself for not doing the proper due diligence. Saw a picture of him coming on as a sub for them last week, and he looked fatter than Charlie Adam!

It's about time you should be able to buy a home or away or all season pass for your team with sky/ bt or whoever!
Is a joke we can't watch until hours later!

I think they'd be too worried about it affecting attendances. Could also be used as a bargaining tool for cheaper match day tickets however, to get more people to the games. Or they could only offer it on a game-by-game subscription - i.e people will still want to go to the game but have the option if they can't make it

Pulis quotes on the Berahino stuff:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38855561

West Brom boss Tony Pulis says he does not "give a damn" about Saido Berahino's future because the Stoke City striker is no longer his problem.

Potters boss Mark Hughes confirmed Berahino, who joined the Potters in January, had served an eight-week suspension when he was at West Brom.

His comments follow newspaper reports Berahino was banned after failing an out-of-competition drugs test.

"Anything Stoke asked for, we told them the truth," Pulis told BBC WM Sport.

"We never picked him again because his fitness levels, mental levels, were never what we wanted.

"This club has been absolutely fantastic towards Saido. The way it's protected him, the way it's looked after him. He should be really, really grateful."

The 23-year-old is set to return to the Hawthorns with Stoke in the Premier League on Saturday.

Asked whether Hughes was the man to help Berahino, Pulis said: "Personally, I don't give a damn now.

"I've spent two and a half years at this club and he's not my problem anymore. I wish him all the best."

Pulis would not comment on the nature of the ban because it was a "personal issue", but he said Berahino never returned to the form he produced before West Brom rejected a bid from Tottenham for the striker in August 2015.

"Saido was very good the first six months I was at this club," said the Welshman. "He didn't go to Tottenham, and from that point on it's been a real struggle in every way, shape and form."

BBC Sport contacted Berahino's representative for comment, but has received no reply. The FA does not comment on its social drugs policy regulations.

Saido Berahino posted this message on Twitter before his Stoke side play at West Brom on Saturday:

Fully focused on what needs to be done, but will be weird to sit in the away changing room  :P

There was a big piece in the news yesterday about this subject. Glad to see we're trying to do something about it rather than blame the ground's existing infrastructure like some clubs have tried to. As an aside, they showed the disabled area at one of the grounds (maybe the Emirates) and it was right near the top, the guy said it was the best view in the house. I've often felt bad that most wheelchair users get stuck right down the front at most grounds, must be difficult to get a decent view of the whole game

WoysWunderful - we have just been taken over and spent £10 million on Livermore. We sit eighth in the table, we should be looking to cement our place, plus you cant tell me we couldn't have improved by signing a CB, and striker.

Our squad is woefully short, I just don't think he can attract the players. Would you like to play for him, his football style is pooh, and the goals all come from set plays.

I think that's the main reason we haven't brought in loads of players. As mentioned in other threads when you look at teams bringing players in in January, especially this year, it's highly concentrated towards the bottom of the table

According to various articles the FA don't announce the bans so the player can rehabilitate on the quiet.

Cheers, thought that might be the case. I imagine Stoke would have known this before he signed?

I think we all knew there was a reason he wasn't being played. And were all puzzled as to the stories coming out of the club regarding his fitness. Fair play to Pulis and the club for not throwing him under the bus with it. But could we face any issues from not disclosing something like that? Or don't we have to? Glad he's not our problem anymore

Don't think Man Utd have been selected for this round by BBC. Looks like Sutton Arsenal and Fulham Spurs

BT Sport have selected them though (47 FA cup ties in a row) - Blackburn Man utd and Wolves Chelsea

To be fait though, Man Utd v Reading got 5.3 million viewers, Sutton v Leeds 0.5 million. Not hard to see why they're chosen, when fans don't care about the magic as much either

Looking at our PL position today it's nice to note that no mater what tonight's results are we will still be 8th at the end of today's games.
I suppose the best possible combination, that helps us going forward, would be for Stoke to beat Everton tonight and then we beat Stoke Saturday to re-enforce our current position of second in the mini league of wannabe's chasing the big boys?

Think I agree, should we be Stoke that is. Burnley have also come out of nowhere too and made a few decent signings in the window

Quote from the Manager yesterday regarding transfers. Sums things up ref this window.

"There is such a small pool that we are fishing in," said Pulis.

"We're moving forward, but it will take time. We have a budget and we've got to make sure the players are right. We're desperate to bring players in."

The Baggies are eighth in the Premier League, but lost in the third round of the FA Cup at home to Championship side Derby County and Pulis said he has missed out on players that he wanted.

"We've moved up a level this season,"
added Pulis. "We are competing against teams like West Ham and Everton but players have gone there instead."

That was posted in the transfer thread a few days ago

40 million broken down over how many seasons against a minimum of 100 million and getting relegated in the process

Yes I was supporting your post with figures showing that they got less than teams in the premier league. It's actually £40 million season 1, £33 million season 2, £14 million season 3

Parachute payments pale into insignificance compared to the prem dosh

About £40 million the parachute payment for last year was, compared to around £100 million for prem teams
