Two birds with one stone
« on: July 20, 2011, 06:57:58 PM »
Hello,

Am I being thick..I have only JUST realized that we as a team could kill two birds with one stone...
With Dorrans returning to the scene this season we can slot him straight into the team without removing anyone!
Because Meite has moved on... Scharner could fill his shoes in the CB position..a position his is comfortable and has experiece playing in for Wigan and other ex-teams.
We could then put Dorrans into his position alongside Mulumbu.

Is this a good idea or would everyone want to see new face for these two positions..?

I don't think Scharner is a centre back, think he plays best as defensive mid.

While I agree that having Dorrans back will be great next season, I see him playing the attacking mid role rather than defensive role.

This all depends also on whether we play two up top or one.

We'll probably see both formations for separate games.

Didn't scharner only sign for us on the promise we'd play him as a CM and not a defender and would only play in defence in emergency

Paul Scharner was absolutely appauling at CB, any one remember west ham at home? when he just kept letting the backk drift over his head.

I like him in CDM, mulumbu makes him look good there.

I wouldn't say Mulumbu makes him look good at all. If anything, Paul Scharner becomes the steady influence of our midfield with him being able to do the things which Mulumbu can't.

Paul Scharner in my opinion is a much better player when used in the midfield.

I would personally prefer new faces, new CB to parter Olsson.

Looks like you wanna disagree with everything i say.

This is why these forums are so good, you clearly i would imagine goto the matches but yet see the game completely different.

Sharner n Mulumbu compliment each other,

Im very sure fans get overcome by scharner by the fact he gees up the crowd by waving his arms and dying his hair blue n white..

hes like paul robinson in some ways.

Don't appear to disagree. I agree, however, Paul Scharner and Youssouf Mulumbu compliment one another very well and it's a partnership I wouldn't want to ruin next season or pull apart next season. Crowds love a fans favourite, and that's how I see Paul Scharner. Someone who can interact with fans yet do the business on the pitch which in my opinion he does very well.

Paul Robinson, Grr, hopefully Paul Scharner doesn't hand in several transfer requests before kissing the badge when his proposed move falls apart.

Scharner was shocking at the bak last season. No surprise that our good spells co-incided with his presence in midfield. If we are not going to utilise Ibanez this season then another CB to partner Olsson is a must for me.

Didnt Scharner play centre half at Everton? I think we should keep Scharner and Mulumbu is a big success and without one of them its not as good.

An advantage of having Scharner in m/f s it gives us another defender/marker that can head the ball when we are defending set pieces,to replace him with Dorrans,Cox,Morrisson et al would leave us very small and open to exploitation in this area.
