West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Sam Allardyce

Allardyce dropped a clanger playing Robson Kanu and leaving out Robinson.  Nothing personal just been proved right.

Allardyce 10 out 10 for last 2 matches.

I am stating here and now I think we can beat everyone, the only match that scares me is Leeds away.

Fair enough, I can see that and also feel it myself that maybe it has been lost in those 3 or 4 games against lower teams where a bit more about us we could have won.

Same time I also can see from Allardyce point of view that we were getting annihilated by teams when first come and leaking goals so can’t blame him too much for always putting the defence first.

Tough one but can see both sides

No at no point would I ever want Allardyce and nothing has changed nor ever will. It is entirely personal.

FairPlay to you actually saying it’s personal, there are too many people who don’t like him as a person but then try and exaggerate some bad decisions to prove a point

Great batting performance from Worcestershire to draw first game of the County Championship away at the reigning champions Essex

Jake Libby carries his bat to finish 180 not out

Vela v wolves
Any of the 5 from the 5-1
Scharner v villa
Brunt penalties v liverpool
McAuley v Chelsea
Dorrans v Stoke
Dunne og v Man City
HRK v Southampton

Sure I can think of a few more but those stand out at the moment

Allardyce was too slow to realise that Livermore / Sawyers were a disaster.  The performances against AV, Leeds, Arsenal were embarrassing.  Sam was like a rabbit in the headlights as to the merits of the squad.

No one knows if we could've forked out £500,000 (+low wages) for a more athletic midfielder in early January?

What I am doing is questioning Sam Allardyce's judgement to continue picking Livermore through January and the ridiculous selection of Robson Kanu over the last 2 months or so.

Livermore & Robson Kanu = league 1 standard.

We are lauding SA for the stunning performance at Stamford Bridge but what about the mistakes?

1. How many league 1 midfielders are there that would be good enough to turn around a premierleague team?

2. Why would a league 1 team let him go for £500k if he was that good?

3. If there is one about and we didn’t go for him why has no one also gone for him?

Seems a bit strange that you seem so convinced that there are just a few cheap players knocking about in league 1 that would be good enough to change the fortunes of a premierleague team

Still no chance, even if we won 5 out of 8 Newcastle would only need 7 points out of 8 games

Might have missed the point here Lee, but I think they were referring to Pulis

They are, that is the point. Some people will moan whatever

A post on twitter summed it up for me saying people are never going to be happy..

Some people see a bloke who finished 14th, 13th & 10th in the premierleague as one of our worst ever managers.

I’d be happy to see big Sam stay next year just because if we do go up we will have someone in charge who knows what it takes to stay there for a change

For me, the difference is we were struggling under Bilic with our players, Under Allardyce we are struggling with 60% our players and 40% mercenaries using us as a shop window.

Thats not an improvement, its a step backwards. (for me)

What should we have done then? Just given up and not signed anyone in January and continue to have teams put 4 or 5 past us?

If that had happened there would have been an even bigger uproar so basically just on to a no win situation.

On the basis that he hasn't improved us. A massive backward step IMO.

I ain’t saying that Big Sam has been brilliant but I seriously can not see in the slightest how we have gone massively backwards.

Sure you just don’t dislike Big Sam as a person? Seems to be what the main problem is that a lot of fans just have a huge dislike for him so over exaggerate his performance in terms of how bad it has been.

FairPlay to him, made some great saves this season. Still don’t rate his all round game though.

Knock some pounds on to his price tag

Meaningless points for Villa where they are. But could relegate us. Don't understand some people's priorities.

We are long gone, that equaliser will have no bearing on us at all.

Right then, hopefully all that is out of everyone’s system......

Got me a £20 treble on so far that I put on a

Arkle - Shiskin
Queen Mother - Chacun Por Soi
Marsh Novice Chase - Envoi Allen

Put it on some weeks back so got around 9/1

Got a mate who had the same treble at 40/1 around Christmas time

It’s at about 4/1 now you can get it for

I just want to take this chance to have a go at HRK as well.

Cross late on, he tries to head it back to someone who was never going to get to it. As soon as the ball is in flight I'm thinking chest it man then hit it on your left (strongest) foot.

Its decisions like that that cost us, lack of quality, maybe but in this case lack of real belief in your own ability, which is probably why we dont shoot enough and keep over passing around the edge of the box.

HRK can score the spectacular as well. What possessed him?

He had to back peddle just to get his head on it, done the right thing for me but no one there anticipating it, only so much that you can do with a floated ball with hardly any pace that is over you.

Relegation was already done and dusted for me, I’m just happy to see us now being competitive in matches which lets be honest we weren’t for most of the season.

Comes down again to just lacking that final bit of quality/cutting edge which the coaching staff can’t really do much about if we just haven’t got the players but seem to be on the right track going forward.

Hopefully he wants to stay as I’d keep him on!

One thing that stands out for me is that a lot of people who don’t want him actually don’t like Allardyce ‘the man’. Doesn’t seem to be many who don’t rate him as a manager

This is how I see it, except I would never dare say it is "not too difficult" to get out of the champ!

It hasn’t been though has it for us, not saying this will always be the case but in the last 20 years we haven’t found it difficult to get out.

I want Allardyce to stay and for once be in a position of getting promoted with a manager who has experience of knowing what it takes to stay in the league and what players are needed.

Like someone else has said before, the past 20 years have shown it’s not too difficult to get West Brom out the championship. Each time this has happened though it’s been with quite inexperienced managers who have maybe a bit naively believed they can take the team up and try and play ‘attractively’ on a limited budget. Each time they have come unstuck.

Mowbray in 2008 we finished bottom, Di Matteo had a decent start but was unable to turn things around when it went wrong & was replaced with the experience of Hodgson and this season we had it with Bilic who was obviously replaced with big Sam.

Going up with someone already with the experience may help us.

Really want Bess to come good but I’m struggling to understand how you can be a spin bowler yet fail to bowl a good length on so many occasions. It’s at least 1 full toss an over!

But we won nothing. No trophies in the cabinet. Just fleeting moments in a League we could never win. He then sells to the highest bidder for more than we’re worth, from an unpredictable part of the world, politically wise, and we’re left with the buyer being told by their government that being top of the football ladder is no longer a priority. Jez was in the right place, at the right time. Fair do’s. That’s capitalism. He’s sorted. I don’t think he really cares about our predicament. All he remembers, is no trophies, but enough money to keep Jersey afloat.

If we are going to judge people by trophies then everyone has failed at West Brom for over 50 years.

I still can’t get my head around fans not expecting him to sell to the highest bidder, cloud cuckoo land thinking he’s going to give up £50m.

Like I’ve said before, it’s easy to tell other people what to do with their money.

Should have won, if we had these players in early January instead of waiting until the last second we may have had a chance.

Allardyce did say if he got a few players in then he could do a bit which I think he is proving, should have been in earleir

I think the fact we more than held our own under his leadership whilst also looking at the academy he oversaw and made sure was funded was excellent.

Paul Thompson was excellent also, but he was 5-6 years before our most successful times, don’t think he can be attributed to anything that happened so long after.

JP put a good team around him. Another excellent bit of work by him.

I don’t begrudge him the money he got for the club, he was a successful chairman for us

I agree, at the helm for our most successful period for 30-35 years and this was 10 years after Thompson had left.

Coronavirus Thread / Re: Coronavirus

A few reasons...

We don't know exactly who is vulnerable.  Like we know which age brackets suffer the most but people under the age of 50 still get it, and can still suffer serious symptoms, and some of those are long term.

Some people can't have the vaccination, for example people with weak immune systems, pregnant/breastfeeding women, etc.  Those folk will be seriously at risk.

The more people that catch it the greater the chance of a mutation.  The more mutations the greater the chance it could mutate to a more lethal or become vaccine resistant.

It's why Jacko is right that there probably won't be internal vaccine passport stuff.  Some people just can't have it, do we ban pregnant women from shopping?

So that’s it then? We are like this forever you are saying?
