the biggest transfer dissapointment of your life?
« on: January 30, 2012, 08:31:17 PM »
so who would you say is the one player that you was excited about when Albion signed but he turned out to be quite rubbish?

for me it has to be Kanu, was so excited when we signed him, and then as soon as I saw him play I realised that he was 5 times better than any other player we had and they couldn't read the passes he was going to make

Mike Phelan,Andy Townsend, Ronnie Wallwork.

I never got excited about Ronnie Wallwork because I didn't know much about him, looking back he was decent during the great escape season.

I agree with Andy Townsend though

Lee Hughes the 2nd, Townsend, and Borja Valero, who I'd heard really good things about.

And Fabian De Fatass after his goals against Norwich.

I definitely agree about Kanu. It tore me apart as a kid to think that we had such a quality player on our books with nobody else in the team being close to his footballing ability. The nearest that he came to finding players on his wavelength in his time here was when he played together with Ellington and Kamara, in my opinion. Sadly these players very rarely linked up due to Robson's fixation with playing Kevin Campbell on his own up front. Right player, wrong time.

Paul Groves was a dissapointment after the other 20 Grimsby players we had bought he was supposed to be the Messi of Blundell Park!!! i also thought Zuiverllon was so much better than we ever saw (shame) he had so much potential

Nathan Ellington (must have left his scoring boots at Wigan)!

Valero.

Not his fault really, played out of position and imo, seemed to be a thought ahead of any of our other players. Would be perfect for this team at the moment.

David Mills for me too. Britain's first Half Million Pound footballer, and absolutely useless. He made Andy Carrol look quite good value. Not Big Ron's finest piece of Management.

Definatley, I was very excited with the signing of Carson as he was and still is an English international. I always stuck up for him last year as I thought he got unfair stick at times but he definately wasnt as good as I anticipated and did get some deserved critisism just a shame some fans took it too far

Nathan Ellington. Thought it was possibly an inspired signing, however as things transpired he was terrible.

Broke us as well, yep David Mills, but the one that disappoints me more was that we nearly signed Paul Mariner who would have been a fantastic signing!

I wouldn't say that Ellington was exactly terrible. He did weigh in with a fair few goals when played, but his overall lazy demeanour on the pitch, not to mention the infamous "bruised toe" 'injury', really didn't help endear him to the Albion fans.
