Caught a bit of a quiz program on the telly last night where one of the the questions was;
"In which TOWN is a railway station called the Hawthorns?" to which the correct answer was considered to be West Bromwich
Now my trivia question is to ask is this correct?
It is often discussed here and elsewhere that the Hawthorns itself is actually the 'wrong side' of the Birmingham CITY boundary line to be able to technically legitimately claim to be in West Bromwich
Any one know if the station is also on the wrong side of the tracks? (See what I did there?) 
Is it in a CITY or in a TOWN?

It is run by Sandwell Council not Birmingham council, so I'd guess it's not considered Birmingham.
 
As an aside Joey Mayo was on Letterbox on BBC2 on Wednesday night, he was also on The Chase about 2 years ago.

From what I understand (and I stand to be corrected), Birmingham begins somewhere just at the back of the East Stand. The actual stadium itself is in West Bromwich which is of course under the jurisdiction of Sandwell council.

The station is also in West Bromwich. If you go a bit further down Halfords Lane just somewhere where the pub is you cross the border into Smethwick.

Clear as crystal eh?

Years ago late 70s 80s there was a small sign indicating Handsworth (Birmingham side) up by the bus stops before where the Woodman was. Also if I remember there was a 72? bus from Birmingham which I think its terminus was called 'The Boundary' which turned around somewhere between Park Lane & Island Road.
So as far as I was concerned the ground was in West Bromwich & I believe Staffordshire?
Then we've had Sandwell, I remember muted mentionings of Sandwell Albion! As was said above go down Halfords Lane/Middlemore Road and youre in Smethwick.

Going back to the early 70's just past the woodman pub there was a sign saying welcome to Sandwell and some fans said the rainbow/east stand was in Birmingham as well as the woodman pub. I even heard the vile scum bags from Witton taking the pi$$ cause the ground as a Brum post code.

I was born in Halfords Lane, which was then in Staffordshire.
My address ended... Smethwick 40,  Staffordshire.

Lichfield has a Walsall postcode which sort of strange when you consider Walsall is town and Lichfield a city.
Postcodes were allocated by the Royal Mail sorting offices to aid the posting of letters.
